The Leaders of the various Zones of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) including Lagos and Abuja Chapters meet over the weekend at Central Zone ( Bayelsa State) where critical issues concerning Ijaw Youths were discussed concerning the present challenges and the Way forward in building a United Ijaw Front.
The IYC Zonal and Chapter Leaders congratulated Hon Maxwell Oko on his new appointment as the EDFA in NDDC who himself was a former IYC Central Zone Chairman and urges him to use his privilege position and assignment to serve Niger Delta people and his primary constituency the Ijaw Youth Council as a direct product of the Struggle that birthed NDDC and other interventionist agencies to being.
The Zonal and Chapter Chairmen also appealed to President Muhamadu Buhari to immediately appoint a passionate and competent Ijaw son who truly understands the foundations of the Amnesty Program to accelerate the much desired Human Capital Development and Youth Empowerment in the Niger Delta.
They described the present management of the Amnesty Office under Prof Charles Dokubo as a misfit, disservice, abysmally insensitive and naive to the essence of the Presidential Amnesty Program executing autocratic policies trading Ijaw interest for political patronage at the detriment the training of our youths and empowerment.
In their conclusion, they also discussed the fast rising tension on the issue of OML 25 between SPDC and Belema, Offonama and Kula Communities of Rivers State and unanimously agreed to discuss with the IYC National President Barr Oweilaemi Pereotubo for an inevitable visit of IYC Worldwide to the Host Communities of OML 25 to protect the interest of the generality of the host communities that have given so much of their blood as National Cake with nothing to show forth for over 40 years of Oil exploration and exploitation in the above mentioned communities.
