THE MAN CAĹLED BRISTOL......

Image
Today I heartily, felicitate with a true Ijaw son, an advocate of the Niger Delta region and immediate past Nat'l Sec. Gen IYC Worldwide, Engr. Emmanuel Bristol- Alagbariya, as he marks yet another  Birthday milestone.  I celebrate him today because I have followed a lot of youth leaders in the Niger Delta who profess to defending the cause of the region, unfortunately only a few has been able to firmly demonstrate leadership that reflects the ideals of the founding fathers of the ijaw struggle  like Emmanuel Bristol Alagbariya.  He is a youth with great acuity, profound mind and passion for development and well-being of Niger Deltans.  By principle, he stands up for what he believes in, and has shown capacity,  intelligence,  and unwaverng passion for the advancement of a region that has suffered great neglect.  He attracts so much respect, and is held in high-esteem so much that his opinion is constantly sought-after in the media and among relev...

SETTING A NEW AGENDA FOR IJAW NATION IN THE PRESENT FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.

Image
Given the unwieldy nature of the topic, let me admit ab initio that my submissions shall be guided by my narrow judgment and perspective, which may not meet the expectation of so many. However, I wish to take solace in the fact that what I am attempting to do is merely provoking a debate, which no doubt shall be robust since the topic is a defining discourse to chat a clear direction to ennoble our objectives on this platform as well as reposition the Ijaw nation. I have adopted the approach of cursorily investigating our historical past to draw lessons that could impact our present endeavours in our search for an agenda. I therefore consider it a privilege and honour to lead subject discussion under the following themes: PRE-INDEPENDENCE STRUGGLE.  From the elegant strides of the former President of the Nigerian Youth Movement, our iconic Ijaw son and quintessential frontline journalist/activist, Ernest Sisei Ikoli of blessed memory rose the quest to ingrain the Ijaw identity in t...

Image
A former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has urged the court to order the return of her 2,149 pieces of jewellery and a customised gold iPhone, valued at $40m, which were seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.   Diezani, who is currently in the United Kingdom, accused the EFCC of entering her apartment illegally and taking the items without any court order. She said the anti-graft agency violated her fundamental “right to own property and to appropriate them at her discretion,” under sections 43 and 44 of the Constitution.
