ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITIES AND THE FALL OF PDP IN BAYELSA STATE: FUNORORO NAREBOR ESQ
The Bayelsa State governorship election was held on the 16th day of November, 2019 and the All Progressives Congress, APC for the first in 20 years won the leading political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state.
The recent activities of political leaders in Bayelsa state during the governorship election attracted maximum discourse both in the conventional and new media among political analysts and social commentators.
Events that unfold in the just concluded governorship election in Bayelsa state as it affects the ruling PDP at the state level leaves one to wonder if genuine political leaders imbibed with political party philosophies really exist in Bayelsa state.
The anti-party concept which leaders of PDP implored to betray the party to loose woefully because of the political differences they had with the Governor of Bayelsa state, Hon. Seriake Dickson is indeed a ruse, particularly when all of them are who they are with PDP. Though, Seriake Dickson over shouldered but that was not enough to turn down the Umbrella in favour of the Broom. A leader should make a decision everybody want instead of hard decision he thinks is right especially when the collective effort of everybody will be needed.
It is crystal clear from the political intrigues recently that Bayelsa PDP now has a shattered house full of betrayals without any clear leaders. Evidences abound that influential members of the PDP hobnob and collaborated with members of the opposition APC against the dictates of the party to make the party loose and even openly received and dine with members of APC to celebrate the victory of APC.
How else can one explain the fact that those who call themselves PDP leaders in Bayelsa state backed a candidate who contested on APC platform against a PDP candidate, whereas they claim to be founding members of PDP. If these leaders are found guilty of engaging in any form of anti-party activity, they are liable to any or a combination of penalties such as reprimand, censure, fine, suspension with a fine, debarment from holding any party office, removal from office, or expulsion from the party, as provided in section 59 of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended).
The rumbles in Bayelsa PDP only leaves one to conclude that the Bayelsa political space is saturated with self-seeking and egoistic leaders who cannot deal with their internal misunderstanding. The All Progressives Congress, APC should also know that members of PDP defecting in their drones in such shameless manners are infiltrators and hawks that does not mean well for the party.
