IJAW VOLUNTEERS EX-MILITANTS:SENT SPECIAL THANKS TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI ON THE CONFIRMATION OF NEW NDDC BOARD.

We the Ijaw Volunteers Ex-Militants from the Ondo, Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States of the Niger Delta region, will like to thank you His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari for dissolving the Prof Nelson Brambaifa led board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and sending the new nominees to the Senate for confirmation.

In expressing our gratitude, we’ll like to echo the position of Vice President Yemi Osibanjo who during his July visit to Delta State, lampooned the agency for failing to meet the development and expectations of the Niger Delta people.

It will be recalled that during the visit two months ago, the Vice President while lamenting the dearth in physical development in the region, said: “The NDDC in many respect has not met the expectations of the oil-producing states; a lot of money is invested in NDDC and the Ministry of the Niger Delta because the real reason they were created is to speed up the development of oil-rich communities.”

We believe that it is in keeping to the commitment of President Buhari to developing all regions of the country including the Niger Delta, that the Presidency, dissolved the Brambaifa board and nominated a new board which is to be chaired by former Edo State Deputy Governor, Pius Odubu alongside Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, Otobong Ndem, and Maxwell Okoh whom are to serve as Managing Director, Executive Director Projects and Executive Director Finance and Administration respectively.

Other members of the board according to available records, are: Jones Erue (Delta); Chief Victor Ekhatar (Edo); Dr. Joy Yimebe Nunieh (Rivers); Nwogu Nwogu (Abia); Theodore A. Allison (Bayelsa); Victor Antai (Akwa Ibom); Maurice Effiwatt (Cross River); Olugbenga Elema (Ondo) and Uchegbu Chidiebere Kyrian (Imo) while Aisha Murtala Muhammed from Kano, Ardo Zubairu from Adamawa and Badmus Mutalib from Lagos States are to serve as Northwest, Northeast and Southwest representatives respectively.

We see the nominees of the new board as adequately competent in developing the region in line with the developmental agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari and will like to join words with the Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom, Chief Ayiri Emami who said: “The President put round pegs in round holes and the new board will live to expectation, unlike the past board that failed to develop the region.”

We’ll also like to use this medium to heartily congratulate all the nominees, particularly the chairman designate; Pius Odudu, the Managing Director designate, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, Olugbenga Elema, Jones Erue and Theodore A. Allison all from Ondo, Delta and Bayelsa States respectively and wish them uncommon success in the offices they have been nominated to serve.

We believe that the choice of Obudu as chairman and Okumagba as Managing Director is a welcome development and there is no doubt that their appointments are in recognition of their enviable previous track records of performance in both public and private life.

As a pursuant to the Nelson Brambaifa led NDDC board, we the Ijaw Volunteer Ex-militants who are key actors in the development of the Niger Delta region, demands nothing less than selfless and accountability service from the management of the new board.

We task the leadership of the new board to live up to expectation and yearnings of the Niger Delta people and correct past mistakes of the commission especially in the areas of project execution by bearing in mind that government is a continuum and ensure the completion of ongoing projects in the area irrespective of ethnicity as we believe development knows no ethnic divide.

Ijaw Volunteer Ex-militants will continue to collaborate with agencies of government at federal and state levels to ensure that there is a conducive environment for operational activities of NDDC as an interventionist agency and all other service providers to execute various developmental projects in the Niger Delta Region.
