THE IJAW CULUTURE SHOULD NOT GO INTO EXTINCTION:MISS FUNERE ODI CRIES OUT.

The Kpakiama in Bomadi Local Government Area born beauty queen who is also contesting at the Face of Ijaw Beauty Pageant in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital has called on Ijaw nation not to allow the Ijaw culture go into extinction.



According to her she said "I feel pained when I see how the  Ijaw culture is gradually fading away in the name of modernisation and the practice of foreign religion the beauty queen lamented. 

The Ijaw people who are the fourth largest ethnic nationality have  refused to borrow leaf from other ethnic nationalities in the preservation of their culture,they have continued to borrow and maintain other ethnic cultural values as if it is theirs.

The beauty queen lamented how the  Ijaw language have been taken over by the speaking of  English language  and slangs among teens and youth in the society today.

" I know how my parents will want us to speak the Ijaw language and how forceful they were to ensure this happen she said,but to our surprise most teens are still comfortable speaking slangs and the English language.

What about our cultural values? she continued:it seems the present set of teens have lost respect for elders,respect for their bodies,and respect to the things we once feared and respected,we have lost respect to things that made us unique as Ijaw people she added.

Cultural activities,such as masquerade festivals,are now seen as evil practices whereas these are events that have brought unity among us as a people. Therefore there is an urgent need to revitalize and concientize our people to understand the need to protect our culture she added.

There is a need  for our founding fathers to inculcate these seem to lost values back to us the children so that we can comfortably pass these values to our children yet unborn the beauty queen added.

A foremost Ijaw activist Comrade Stanley Patrick aka Ogbakiri,a signatory to Kiama declaration and a leader of KOLTA MILITANTS has called on Ijaw leaders to call Proffesor Charlse Dokubo to order and also ask the contractors handling the Bomadi Skill Aquisition centre to quickly complete the project so that Niger Delta youths can benefit from the scheme. Ogbakiri lamented how the project is been slowed down despit the huge amount that is been pumped in to complete it,he said about 85 percent of the total contract sum have been given to the contractors and these contractors instead of doing their jobs they are busy enriching themselves and building mansions for themselves.
