Daniel Pondei, Acting MD of the NDDC says the Senate and House of Representative Ad-hoc Committees investigating the commission are weaponizing the forensic audit against the interim management due to the implication of some lawmakers in contract scandal. The House of Representatives has summoned all serving and former heads of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as part of the ongoing probe of financial mismanagement in the agency. The House Committee on Public Accounts issued the summons based on queries issued by the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation on the accounts of the NDDC. This is different from the probe being carried out by the House Committee on the NDDC over alleged illegal spending and mismanagement of funds totalling N81.5bn. A group of former Niger Delta agitators has thrown its support behind the ongoing probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by the National Assembly. The group in a statement signed  by the Chairman, Amnesty Phase II, Delta State Chapter, Amb Kingsley Muturu, stated that the probe is long overdue and urged the National Assembly to ignore ‘the drama by those called to give an account of their stewardship. According to him, ‘all I want is for the National Assembly is to get to the root of the issues at stake. In the NDDC, there are no harmonised interests, rather varied interests of those who are only interested in lining their pockets to the detriment of the masses of the Niger Delta people. The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has unveiled the N450 million COVID-19 pandemic medical equipment donated by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for the protection of men of the Nigeria Police Force in the Niger Delta region. Launching the equipment, which included Intelligent Disinfection Doors, at the Delta State Police Headquarters in Asaba, the police IG said that they would go a long way in assisting the police to serve the public better. Diezani Ordered By Court To Return To Nigeria For Prosecution

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, ordered former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to appear before it and answer to a money laundering charge filed against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The judge, Ijeoma Ojukwu, gave the order in a ruling on an ex-parte motion marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/208/2018 brought by the EFCC’s lawyer, Faruk Abdallah. Ojukwu ordered the issuance of summons on Mrs Alison-Madueke for her to be arraigned on the charge. The EFCC had accused the former minister of fleeing the country for the United Kingdom (UK) in order to escape justice. The judge, who ordered that the court’s summons be published on the website of the anti-corruption agency and a national daily in a conspicuous manner, said the development would make it easier for Mrs Alison-Madueke to be aware of the invitation. A 32-year-old man, Sani Garba, paraded by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly raping a 60-year-old woman, has pleaded for forgiveness, saying he was attracted by her ‘shaking buttocks.’ The state Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said on Friday that the suspect was apprehended by operatives attached to ‘B’ Division, Suleja, adding that he would be arraigned after investigation. It was learnt that the suspect barged into the room of the victim on July 18, 2020, around 4.30pm and raped her. Garba told our correspondent that he forcefully had sex with more than three old women in the community. He said, “Since I didn’t have money to maintain a girlfriend for, I resorted to having sex with old women in my area and I enjoyed doing it. BUILDING COLLAPSE IN EBUTE META MANY FEARED TRAPPED.

Many residents were trapped as a building collapsed in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State on Friday. It was gathered that the building is situated opposite the Health Centre Ebute Metta along Cemetery Street. The spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the incident. He, however, did not disclosed whether any casualty was recorded as of the time of filing this report. “Our personnel are on ground at the scene and rescue operation is ongoing,” Okunbor briskly said.

ABU students bag rail engineering degrees in China

The students went to China in 2018 on a 3+2 joint double degree programme to study railway engineering. According to the Ag Director Public Affairs of the university, Awwal Umar, the students returned on board an Air Peace flight which landed at 2:32 am at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri says his administration will continue to collaborate with the Nigerian Navy to make the waterway safe. The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State Sen Douye Diri and Commodore Patrick Effah commander NNS Soroh Governor Diri stated this when the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Soroh, Yenagoa, Commodore Patrick Effah, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Government House. Sen. Diri said there was the need to tackle cases of sea piracy, kidnapping, robbery, illegal refineries and other activities destroying the Marine environment. "You know our people live by the water. Many still travel by water to their communities and we use the water for different domestic activities. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has stated why he took a neutral position in last weekend's election of the Ijaw nation's foremost youth group, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC). The 8th president in the Ijaw Youth Council Comrade Peter Igbifa and the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State,Sen Douye Diri Governor Diri said rather than interfere, his administration was more concerned about de-politicising the umbrella bodies that represent the Ijaw nation, particularly the IYC and the Ijaw National Congress (INC).
